Carola Trier

Carola Trier (1913-2000) was born in Germany in 1913; she and her family worked in Europe until WWII. Carola was sent to a Nazi- run detention camp in France, she escaped and then immigrated to the United States in 1942. In New York Carola worked as a dancer, acrobat, and a roller-skating contortionist. She came to Joseph’s and Clara’s studio because of a devastating injury. They became great friends. In the late 1950s, Carola opened her own Contrology studio, teaching the methods she had learned from Joe and Clara. In fact, she was the first pupil of Joe to open her own studio. Carola was an active teacher and lecturer till the late 1980s. Carola was known as a brilliant teacher – she had good eye and a warm touch.
“Her mentoring instilled in me a sense of appreciation for good movement, an encouragement of opening my observations skills and the use of guiding hands to direct the quality of movement.”
-Doris Pasteleur Hall (from Blog entry)
“ Carola was this very petit woman with long bones in black leotard and tights, beautiful coiffure hair with a voice that carried a strong German accent. She was a very dynamic woman”
