Mary Bowen began studying Pilates in 1959 when she was 29 years old and living in New York City as an actress and performer. She discovered Joe Pilates in a newspaper article. In reference to her time with Joe, Mary writes “ My back improved after only two lessons with Joe. Since walking into Joe and Clara’s studio fifty years ago, I have taken one to two lessons every week for all those years.” Mary also works as a Jungian psychoanalysis, something she began studying the same time she discovered Pilates.
